To establish this extraordinary upgrade path, Geist incorporated an Interchangeable Monitoring Device (IMD) into its robust PDU design. Geist’s rugged power strips last for years and with the new IMD users can install the latest technology without replacing the power strip. The hot-swappable IMD can be changed in a few simple steps without interrupting power to critical servers.

With remote power monitoring, data center managers can receive notifications of current threshold breach, preventing unnecessary downtime. Data from the unit can be accessed through any Web browser, without requiring external software. Data can be integrated into Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) systems for remote notification, and the intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) allows managers to quickly access pertinent information.

The IMD device delivers a comprehensive view of power usage in a data center.  It is a hot-swappable replacement or upgrade solution allowing new technology to be applied as it is developed. The IMD offers on-board and web power monitoring display options with quick access to the unit’s current, volts, real power, apparent power, power factor and kilowatt hours.

Upgradeable Local/Remote Power Monitoring + Remote Sensing

IMD-02EV (Vertical) or IMD-02EH (Horizontal)

The IMD-02EV Interchangeable Monitoring Device + Remote Sensing delivers a comprehensive view of power usage and environmental conditions in a data center. To be used with the modular design of the Upgradeable PDU, it is a hot-swappable replacement or upgrade solution allowing new technology to be applied as it is developed. The unit’s environmental sensor port gives data center managers the ability to track critical climate variables like temperature, airflow, humidity and dew point with the use of a Geist remote sensor. 

User-Friendly Web Interface

Geist’s Monitored PDU’s help users keep an eye on remote conditions from a secure web interface. The web interface provides an overview of your environment using real time data. All measurements are logged allowing users to collect data for trending and capacity management. Monitored PDU’s have flexible access rights and security settings with up to three access account levels, as well as LDAP support for easy integration into existing user access management procedures. It offers secure access through the web and supports HTTP and HTTPS protocols.

Geist offers low profile breakers as a standard feature on select basic and intelligent PDU configurations. Customers may choose to incorporate the smaller breaker design on applicable custom PDU orders.

U-Lock Receptacles

U-Lock C13 and C19 Locking ReceptaclesGeist offers IEC C13 and C19 receptacles with an integrated locking feature built within the receptacle housing. The locking mechanism is protected against vibration and external elements that can easily dislodge external locking clips or guides. This self-contained locking mechanism works with any standard IEC plug. Locking receptacles come standard on some units and are available for custom orders.

Basic PDUs, not equipped with power monitoring, can be retrofitted with a Geist Upgradeable Inline Monitor. Simply insert the device between the PDU and the power source to measure and display data. This is the ideal solution for facilities that do not want to replace their entire arsenal of non-intelligent PDUs, but want power monitoring capabilities.

Overview

Simply capture all the data needed to analyze trends and resolve issues before they lead to costly downtime. Optional environmental sensors provide the ability to track critical climate variables such as temperature, airflow, humidity and dew point. Remote power and environmental monitoring information is available through any Web browser so no external software is required.

Outlet measurements can be used to accurately reconcile power usage per rack for a customer or department. Use these measurements to verify SLAs or for budgeting purposes; the measurements have been tested and verified by ANSI C12.1 and IEC 62053-21 to meet 1% Accuracy Class requirements. 

Geist’s units support SNMP (v1, v2c, v3) and allows the data to easily integrate with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems or receive alerts when thresholds are breached.

Environmental Monitoring

Where possible, it is recommended that the PDU is rebooted prior to applying the update to v4.4.0 by pressing the grey reboot button on the face of the PDU.

What type of readings does the Monitored Upgradeable PDU provide?

The Monitored Upgradeable PDU provides Phase (X, Y, Z) Monitoring (A, V, VA, kWh, PF) Phase Power measurements compliant with ANSI C12.1 and IEC 62053-21 at 1% Accuracy Class requirements, Circuit/Breaker Monitoring (A), Circuit/Breaker Current measurements (independently tested and verified at 2% accuracy).

Can the upgrade process take place with the PDU powered?

Yes, the PDU power can remain on during the removal and/or installation of the Interchangeable Monitoring Device.

What is the benefit to monitoring at the outlet level?

Monitoring at the outlet level allows you to pinpoint system-critical failures and take preventative measures. For example, a gradual rise in a server’s current draw over time might indicate a failing power supply. Outlet level monitoring can also track where power is being used for departmentalized power billing in large companies.

Can I monitor at the input or circuit level too?

Yes, the Outlet Level Power Monitoring units will also monitor and display the input/circuit power readings for the PDU.

What is the accuracy rating of the power readings at the outlet?

Outlet Power Measurements Compliant with ANSI C12.1 and IEC 62053-21 at 1% Accuracy Class Requirements.

How many and what type of environmental sensors can be connected?

Up to 16 external sensors can be connected to the Outlet Level Power Monitoring unit. These sensors can include: Temperature, Temp/Humidity, Flood, Smoke, Door Position and more.

Do I have the option to purchase PDUs in various colors?

Yes, Geist offers its power distribution units in various colors to:

  • Identify input feed A/B, for racks with multiple connected PDUs
  • Identify which phase/circuit a single phase PDU is connected to
