Geist Intelligent Containment saves up to 40 per cent when compared to traditional data center cooling methods. Winner of the 2011 Uptime Institute Green Enterprise IT Award. No cooling solution is as efficient.

Traditionally, data centers were designed in a hot aisle/cold aisle arrangement. Cold supply air comes up through the floor and hot exhaust air is returned into the ceiling. While this solution works adequately for older, lower density cabinets, it simply does not for today's data centers. This design allows for the significant mixing of hot and cold air and creates hot spots which require the provision of more cooling.

Another method of cooling is Cold Aisle Containment. Creating this type of zone requires over supply to meet the needs of higher density cabinets. This over supply of air continues to escape and mix with the hot return air. Conversely, Hot Aisle Containment creates a dedicated zone of hot exhaust air. This requires the servers to push air up into the return plenum - causing them to work harder and create more heat.  That also creates a highly uncomfortable working environment for data center operations personnel. However, neither hot nor cold aisle containment methods allow effective control of the cooling circuit. For the only effective means of separating supply and return air while controlling the cooling circuit, you need Opengate By Geist - the intelligent solution to cooling. The Opengate system starts with custom chimneys and smart fans attached to the cabinets. When installed, the Opengate system removes all exhaust air from inside the cabinet.

By continuously monitoring cabinet pressure, the Opengate system removes just the right amount of air, and exhausts it directly back into the plenum. Geist Intelligent Containment captures nearly 100% of the hot return air. Fans and chimneys deliver the highest possible return temperatures to the CRACs. And, the ideal temperature is maintained throughout the data center. Further, the Opengate System provides only the required amount of supply air to limit overcooling and maximize savings.
